UCAS Applicant Accept/Decliner survey, 2024
The responses to our survey of Undergraduate offer-holders in the 2024 cycle have been published. The most influential factors in declining an offer at UoM are consistent with 2023: the quality of our accommodation, high entry requirements, and our reputation.
For international decliners, the influence of the ‘Cost of Tuition Fees’ in their decision to decline has increased. 45% of decliners cited this as one of the main reasons for declining their place, an increase from 36% in 2023. This reflects concern around the affordability of overseas study, as reflected in PGT conversion also. China remains the least price-sensitive market, though 4% more decliners cited cost as a key factor in 2024.
Accommodation remains a key decision-making factor for decliners, though an increased number of students (+11%) have high confidence that our accommodation will meet their needs.
Offer-holders also commented on the influence of entry requirements and institution/subject rankings in making Firm/Insurance choices, these were of higher importance for FSE applicants.
