Do you know what Foundation Studies is?

Foundation Studies is a year-long integrated programme which fulfils a vital role in providing students from a wide range of diverse backgrounds with access to our highly selective undergraduate degree programmes across both Schools of Engineering and Natural Sciences.

Students can apply for the following integrated foundation year programmes:

Students are taught by University academics and are provided with high levels of academic, pastoral and PS support, and the environment for study is essentially the same as for undergraduate study on degree programmes in Engineering and Natural Sciences disciplines.

The programme embraces a variety of approaches to teaching and learning, including lectures, small group tutorials, seminars and project work, and students take a total of 12 course units (120 credits) and assessment is based primarily on examinations at the end of each semester plus a proportion of coursework which is carried out throughout the academic year. Successful completion of the specific criteria for the programme guarantees students a first year place on their chosen UG degree programme within the Department.
